Parents as partners

Land Lubbers

At Anchors we value parents as partners, and understand the important contribution that parents make towards their child’s development and learning. We hope to continue this process by providing support, guidance and encouragement to parents as their child’s first educator.

In the term before your child starts ( Midshipmen), parents/carers and new recruits will be invited to a session at Anchors giving an opportunity for the children to meet the staff and to familiarise themselves with the setting.

At this meeting, we confirm up to date information about your child, including contact details, health information and an initial child profile which can help us plot an individual course for your child. You will also be given details on how you can access our policies, the curriculum and other useful information.

Each child is given a communication book. This is used as a means of communication between the parent/carer and their child’s key person to support learning at home. The communication book is sent out frequently to communicate achievements, concerns and/or Next Steps.

At the start of the academic year, we offer a curriculum evening where parents/carers can gain a clearer understanding of our approach, and we can discuss how the nursery can work in partnership with them.

A termly newsletter and term plan are sent out to all parents/carers, and a regularly updated parents’ notice board is situated by the Nursery door.

Parent reviews are arranged with parents/carers in the autumn and spring terms to review the progress of each child and discuss any specific matters of concern.

Reports are written in the summer term and kept in the Log File. These are shared with the parent/carer towards the end of the term. During each child’s final term, we provide a leaver’s report with a copy for the parent/carer to pass on to the child’s next school. We also hand over the child’s Log File which contains photos and other evidence of their time at Anchors.

Parents are invited to join in with a Christmas sing along/nativity show, followed by mince pies and mulled wine in the autumn term. A sports day is held at the Rotherwick cricket field in the summer, finshed off with a picnic. Aside from functions arranged with the children specifically in mind, we provide an opportunity for parents to meet at parents’ pub meals each term and at a party held in the summer term. These functions are usually well supported!

At Anchors the children come first. We operate an open door policy and staff will always make time for any parent/carer who has specific concerns.
